3 Exterior Siding Colors You Should Consider For Your Home

Color trends come and go, which is why many homeowners wonder which color of siding is best for their home. While some classic shades can make your home look stunning for years, others can look dated in as little as a few years, so it pays to do your research before settling on a color. Here are three exterior siding colors that are predicted to be hot in 2019 and why they may be a safe bet for years to come.

1. Greige

Forget about the beige shades that were hot a few years back. Instead of tan colors with pink, yellow, or brown hues, greige has taken the home renovation realm by storm. As a mix of taupe and gray tones, greige is interesting enough to create a stark contrast with white exterior trim, and mellow enough to create a neutral appearance.

In fact, greige is so sought-after that it has even been shown to boost your home's value. In fact, a study conducted by Zillow found that homes that were painted greige tended to sell for $1,526 more than homes painted white. Although the draw to griege is still being studied, this exterior siding color is easier to keep clean and melds well with a large variety of roofing options, including black and brown asphalt shingles.

Additionally, greige is neutral enough to be painted over easily, making it simple for new homeowners to customize their homes as they see fit. Instead of worrying about priming over dark brown siding, homes with greige exteriors can be painted without a lot of prep work, saving people time, money, and frustration.

If you are thinking about updating your home with greige siding, keep in mind that there are several undertones and hues to choose from. Whether you are looking for a lighter, warm-toned greige or a dark, cool-toned version, you can find the perfect hue for your home by talking with a siding contractor.

2. White and Black

While greige homes may sell for more than white counterparts, today's white home is a far cry from the versions created yesteryear. Instead of simply adding white siding to a home with other accents, many homeowners are creating monochromatic homes by using all-white siding and gutters, while creating contrast with black windows, front doors, lighting, and even roofing materials.

In addition to creating a crisp, clean looking home, white siding has also been shown to reflect the rays of the sun, helping interior home temperatures to remain more stable. For instance, since dark colors absorb as much as 70% to 90% of heat-generating UV light, painting your home white can help to reflect that sunlight, keeping your place cooler during the hot summer.

White houses with black accents also look great with landscaping, helping green plants and carefully designed flower gardens to pop. White has also been shown to create a sense of serenity and peace, helping prospective visitors and home buyers to feel safe and sound while sitting in your place.

3. Navy

If you are craving a little color, consider navy blue. Because blue isn't a color frequently found in nature, navy homes tend to create a great deal of visual interest. Navy blue also pairs well with other accent colors, including black, brown, and white.

Furthermore, navy hides dust, dirt, and water stains easily, helping your home to look cleaner from the street. When choosing a shade of navy, try to stay away from extremely dark shades, which could attract more heat gain. Additionally, skip lighter hues, which could make your home look like it belongs in a children's nursery.
